HERTFORDSHIRE EARLY DANCE

Founded in 2002, Hertfordshire Early Dance is a club for all those interested in the dances of earlier times. Members and friends meet monthly to practise dances with the expert guidance of either our principal tutor, Anne Daye, or another experienced tutor. We do dances from a wide range of styles and periods, including the English, French and Italian courts of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and country dances from the Playford collection. The club has its own band "The Presence", who provide the music for meetings.

The highlight of the year is the May Revels, when members enjoy a feast, entertainments and dancing, and period costume is worn. In addition, visits have been organised to sites of historical interest with dancing connections.

We welcome new dancers of all standards, and the band would like to hear from musicians on any suitable instrument interested in joining them (a reasonable sight-reading ability is required).
